Fox Sports and NextVR have joined forces to start the next basketball season in March in virtual reality. As part of the partnership between sports television and virtual reality livestreaming company, the whole Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden will livestreamed in VR.
NextVR will stream live four games on March 10th two matches on March 11th, and the championship on March 12, marking the first time the entire tournament will be filmed for growing the virtual reality of the audience. This is something that no one has managed to do except Fox Sports and NextVR.
Dave Cole, co-founder NextVR, says this practice will help to form basketball teams in college. Cole claims will give livestreaming be so far something new and something unseen.
Viewers who download the application for Samsung NextVR equipment VR headset will see live action from different perspectives.
David Nathanson, head of operations at Fox Sports, says virtual reality is a technology that allows to create a completely new view of the world, in this way we will be completely in the game, you will feel like you are on the field.
“We expect that the faculty sports enthusiast demographic to be very sensitive to the VR,” says Cole. “We will soon see if the intersection of this demographic and VR installed base is higher than usual. Our expectations are very good.”
It is also the first livestreamed event available to owners of the new Galaxy smartphone S7, which is designed for virtual reality.
